The newest national health alert has appeared in Chicago but you don’t have to head out of town just yet.
Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Lakeview announced that a woman in her 30s appears to have the much-feared Zika virus.
However, officials say the woman recently traveled to Columbia where the virus outbreak is much more severe and the woman has made a full recovery without needing any additional medical attention.
The Zika virus has been linked to birth defects in children born to mothers who have been exposed to the virus while pregnant but the woman at Presence St. Joesph is not pregnant and doctors do not expect any long-lasting complications from the infection.
